Obituary of Vaughn Combs

Vaughn Combs 79, of Taberg, passed away peacefully at his home, with his loving family by his side, on February 6, 2018. He was born on September 23, 1938, in Rome, a son of the late Vaughn T. and Edna Wood Combs. Vaughn was a graduate of R.F.A. Class of 1956; he was united in marriage to Agnes Gaeta. Agnes passed away on October 31, 2013. Vaughn was employed by the Canteen Company of Oriskany for over twenty years, until his retirement. He was past Master of the Baron Steuben Lodge 264 of Lee Center, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a past Commander-In-Chief of the Valley of Utica AASR and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. In 2010 he served as Potentate of Ziyara Shriners, he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star , U.C.C. of E. and the G.W.R.R.A New York Chapter T Motor Cycle Club. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Laurie Combs, Waldorf, MD, Vaughn and Joan Combs, Rome; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy and Kenneth Sweatman, Taberg, Karen Flick, Lee Center, Kimberly and Timothy Closson, Taberg; two brothers, David and Cheryl Combs, Rome, Gary and Barbara Combs, Munnsville; a sister, Lori and Busby Hawkins, Rome, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial contribution in Vaughn's name may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or Ziyara Shriners Transportation Fund 8209 Halsey Road, Whitesboro, N.Y. 13492 Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 10, 2018 at 4:00 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday from 2-4 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery.
