Obituary of Samuel A. Sanzone

Samuel A. Sanzone Samuel A. Sanzone, 86, of Lee, passed away on January 26, 2018, with his loving family at his side. He was born on January 29, 1931, in Rome, N.Y. a son of the late Vito and Beatrice Carambia. Sam was a graduate of Rome Free Academy Class of 1949, he also attended Utica College. On July 13, 1950, Sam proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, and served until April 10, 1951. On November 28, 1953 he was united in marriage to Geraldine Domenico. Geraldine passed away on October 22, 2000. Sam later went on to marry Marsha Boyer on December 10, 2009. Marsha passed away on December 16, 2014. Sam was a member of St. Peter's Church, Rome and the Lee Center American Legion. He was employed as a Construction Superintendent with D.W. Winkelman Construction Company. He is survived by his loving children, Gina and Sam Pilia, GA, Frank and Sandy Sanzone, Lee, Samuel V. Sanzone and John Gonsalves, N.H., Vito Sanzone, Toronto; five grandchildren, Kelley, Alexa and Zak Sanzone, Nicole and John Pilia; two great grandchildren, Jackson and Garrett; his extended family, whom he had a special relationship with, Peter and Patrick Kelly, Michael and Megan Boyer. A special friend, Peter Wood. Sam was predeceased by a brother Samuel Sanzone. The family wishes to thank Dr. Okonkwo, for the wonderful care and friendship, which she provided to Sam, over the past year. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Church Food Pantry 105 East Liberty Street Rome, N.Y. 13440. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Church. Calling hours will be held on Monday (Sam's Birthday) from 5-7 P.M. at Strong – Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Interment will take place in St. Johns Cemetery.
