Obituary of Robert Houser Stropp

Robert (Bob) Houser Stropp, 74, died December 3, 2017 after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born in Rome, on October 22, 1943 to Richard J. Stropp, Jr. and Martha Houser Stropp. He was educated in Rome schools, Paul Smith's College and HCCC. Most recently he was employed with Holland Patent Central Schools where he was affectional known as "Mr. Bob". He was also well known as owner of Houser Stropp's Tavern, a freelance writer known by many pen names including "Baker Fae" for the Rome Observer; but also wrote for many Steffen Publications (including the column "What about Bob"), the Boonville Herald and the Rural Star. He was active in the community and found Holland Patent to be a second family to him. He had a passion for fly fishing, Trenton falls tours, the history of the Village of Delta and the Black River Canal; he was also a lifetime member of the BPOE. Late in life Bob found a love for the Adirondacks, both camping and hiking; and was working towards becoming a 46'er. Bob is survived by his daughter, Melissa Cleveland, two grandchildren Alexandria and Jackson Cleveland, a brother, Richard Stropp III, two sisters, Cynthia (Donald) Commerford and Linda (Timothy) Brady. Along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Sandra E. Stropp. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Gentile, Kathy R, and the nursing staff of the Upstate Oneida Oncology office, as well as Kare, and the amazing staff at the oncology floor at St. Luke's who were compassionate and made Bob feel comfortable at the end. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the "Mr. Bob" Memorial Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. A spring interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Barneveld.
