Gail and I wanted you all to know how sad we were to hear of Ellie's passing. Neither one of us could make the calling hours this morning but we wanted to share our reflections with you. We loved Ellie and Manford. Gail just told me again this morning how "cute" a couple they were...and who could argue that! The way they looked after each other is something all married couples should try to emulate. Gail always loved Manford's hat and suspenders. She thought he was pretty dapper. I was amazed to read in Ellie's obituary that she was our own "Rosie the Riveter"! I would never have imagined that diminutive woman welding battle ships in a Maine shipyard! Your mother's quite dignity is what I will remember most about her. She took everything in stride and just soldiered on. She was the embodiment of the "Best Generation". Most importantly, they both leaned on their Lord and Savior and were devout Christians and mainstays of our Baptist Church in Rome. The last time I saw Ellie was at the Muster Day Meal a year or two ago. That was a treat. Please know that you are all in our hearts and prayers during this sad time. You can be assured that we will meet her again when our time comes to go home.
