Barbara F. Van Winkle Grogan It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Barbara F. Van Winkle Grogan, on July 22, 2017, at the Presbyterian Nursing Home in New Hartford. Mom fought for many years with Parkinson's disease and she fought well. Barbara was born on May 14, 1937, in Utica, N.Y. She was the daughter of William Charles and Vaughn Greene Van Winkle. On June 28, 1957, she was married to Richard G. Grogan. Their loving union lasted 33 years, until Dad's untimely death on August 16, 1990. Barbara graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1955 and from Faxton School of Nursing in 1958 with her R.N. degree. Mom worked in many area hospitals and retired in 1994 from Marcy Psychiatric Facility. Barbara was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since the early 1960's, which she truly enjoyed. She was a Cub Scout Leader, a swimming Mom and a hockey Mom. She would travel with her family to AAU swimming competitions and hockey games. She also loved going to Grams and Gramps camp at Oxbow Lake in Speculator, N.Y. Barbara will be missed by her loving children and their spouses, Kathleen and William Houser, Ann and John Lawson, John and Karen Grogan, Jim and Julie Grogan. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William and Nancy Van Winkle; and her grandchildren, Kate Jaworski (Phillip Andelson), Aaron Jaworski, John Lawson, Meghan Lawson, Sean and Gabbi Kamide-Grogan, Shannon Grogan (Kevin Baxter), Alex Grogan and Sarah Grogan and a great granddaughter, Callahan Marie Grogan and nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Richard, her parents and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ellieene and Risley Dixon. The family would like to express their great gratitude to the Presbyterian Home and the nurses on the Elm wing. A special thank you to Cindy and Marsha.
