Thelma Carolyn Wright 91 of Rome, decided to go home on September 17, 2017. She was born on December 5, 1925, in Vienna Georgia. The daughter of the late Johnnie Lee & Ammer Lee Lily- Lewis. She graduated from Vienna High & Industrial School, attended Fort Valley State College and graduated from SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome campus .
Thelma had a passion for teaching and working with children. She worked as an Assistant Teacher at the Rome Daycare Center, with adolescent clients at Rome Development Center and teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in their Preschool Program.
She was also a dedicated and active member of Grace Union Church in Rome, for over 50 years. She was a member of the choir, a Sunday school teacher and a Trustee.
Thelma is survived by her sister Irene McClendon of Rome and her niece and nephews and their children and great grandchildren who she loved as her own; Melva(Tony) of California, parents of Brian(Arianna & Marcellus) , Yusef(Naveah), Tiffany and Laura; Bobby of California father of Marcus and Dakota, Roderick(Toni) of Albany parents of Ian(Xena & Ronyn), Rory; and of course Henry who we all called "Butchie" . And a special place in her heart for Jeffery Darton.
In addition to her family Aunt Thelma loved to cook and was an entertaining story teller with a great sense of humor. She is predeceased by her siblings; Johnnie Lee, James, Phillene, Morris, Mariam(Cope)and Fred. Her husband Mack and daughter Carolyn.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at 3:00P.M. at the Grace Union AME Church, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the Church from 1:00-2:00 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will take place in Vienna City Cemetery, Vienna, Georgia. Arrangements by Strong- Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.
The family is requesting donations be made to the Grace Union Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
