Obituary of Richard A. Johnson

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard A. Johnson 6/3/1948 - 5/29/2017 Richard "Rick" Alfred Johnson, of Remsen, NY, took his last breath surrounded by family and friends at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in New Hartford, NY on Memorial Day 5/29/17 at the age of 68. Rick was born in Rome, NY on June 3, 1948 to parents Alfred F. Johnson and Beverly Jenny Johnson. He was the oldest of 3 and is survived by his brother Paul Johnson, sister Linda Chatfield and his mother Beverly Johnson. He spent all of his childhood in Rome, graduating from RFA in 1966. He attended Paul Smith's College receiving a degree in Forestry. He served his country honorably in Vietnam from 1969-1971. He returned to New York state and worked for Revere Copper & Brass before moving to Virginia in 1978 where he raised his 3 children, Amanda Benson, Willow Devine & Luke Johnson. His children are forever grateful to have such an amazing and supportive father, who always led by example and would do anything for them. He worked for US Silica for many years while living in Hedgesville, WV. Upon retiring in 2013, Rick relocated to the foothills of the Adirondacks where he created a peaceful space to call his own and the river ran through it. Rick lived a full life, always ready for the next adventure and always available to help anyone in need. He was a beacon of strength and dignity, always striving for perfection. He instantly gained the respect of anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Some of his passions included his family, the outdoors, fly fishing, history, craft beer and cheese. He always treasured anytime he could spend with his family, especially his 3 beautiful grandchildren, Adaline Benson, Salix Devine, and Lucianna Johnson. His smile would light up a room, and lift the heaviest heart. Cheers to everyone that had the honor and privilege to have had an opportunity to hear one of his many stories, or create a memory with this incredible man who knew something about everything. Remembrances can be made in the form desired by friends. A celebration of life for close family & friends will be held at a later date. May Rick be in supreme peace, may his heart resound through eternity as a true memorial of love....in the end love is all there is.
