Obituary – Edith Eva Henderson Edith Eva Henderson, 98, of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2017 at Focus Rehabilitation & Nursing Home, Utica, NY. Edith was born on March 28, 1918, a daughter to the late John and Betsy Scofield Gantt. She was married to Augustus Henderson in Quincy, IL, where they spent most of their life. He passed away on 12/6/1968. Edith was of Methodist faith and was a member of the Missionary Board, an usher and member of Bethel AME, and Supervisor of the Young People Department. She was an avid bowler and lovingly cared for the landscaping around her home. She was a hard worker who always held several jobs at one time. Edith also worked at the Powers Department Store in Minneapolis, MN. She is survived by two sons, William Gantt of Rome, and Darwin Henderson of Cincinnati, OH; two sisters, her twin Edna Williams of Hot Springs, AK and Doris Thompson of Kansas City, MO.; two granddaughters, Norma and Grace; one great granddaughter, Chanda and two great great grandchildren, Gianna and Kashif and many nieces and nephews. Edith was predeceased her sister, Oneida Davis; and two brothers John and Lloyd Gantt. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7 at 2:30PM at Strong-Burns and Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Bethel AME Church, 905 Oak Street, Quincy, IL 62301.
