Richard A. Lombino, "Dick", 69, of Deerfield and formerly of Rome, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 10, 2017. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on July 6, 1948 a son of the late Charles and Nancy Amoroso Lombino. Richard was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and continued his education at Walsh College and went on to complete a Master's Degree in Administration. For 32 years Richard was employed as a Teacher with the Rome City School District, a job he loved. He was awarded the Rotary Club Teacher of the Year in 1988. He also conducted numerous Spelling Bee Contests in the city of Rome. Upon his retirement Richard accepted a position with the Turning Stone Casino as a line chef where he was able to put his culinary skills to work. Richard was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Rome and recently was attending services at Mount Carmel Church in Utica. He was a Board Member of the Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union and in his free time enjoyed going to Vernon Downs, Las Vegas, Turning Stone Casino, and taking vacations with his family. Dick was a dedicated father and an amazing grandfather. Grandpa Dick loved spending time with his Grandson Bryce who was his whole world. Dick and Bryce could often be spotted in the community after school and at all of Bryce's baseball and hockey games. He recently made a cherished cookbook compiled of all of his mother's recipes. He was a member of the Toccolana Club, volunteered his time to numerous events in the community, and donated to many special causes. Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 15, 2017 at St. Johns the Baptist Church, Rome at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Paul Angelicchio officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday from 4-7 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Interment will take place in St. Johns Cemetery. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Brett Lojewski, New Hartford; a cherished grandson, Bryce Henry Lojewski; special friend, Shirley Fadel, Rome; two nieces, Nancy Lombino and Judy Sullivan and husband, James. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Lombino Jr.
