Melvin Ridley, 57 0f Rome, passed away on May 7, 2017 at the Van Duyne Home, in Syracuse. He was born on September 28, 1959 a son of James and Dorothy Ridley in Manhattan, N.Y. On April 20, 2002 he was united in marriage to Yvonne Kee at a ceremony held at Becks Grove. Melvin was employed by the N.Y. State Department of Corrections as a Sergeant, at the Oneida Correctional Facility until his retirement after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Boonville Elks Lodge, the Prince Hall Military Lodge 112 and served as the Chaplin for the Son's of the American Legion Post# 1846 of Westernville.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne of Rome; his mother Dorothy; a daughter Shantae Ridley, Manhattan, N.Y.; three stepchildren, Keith Jr., Tyesia and Peter Richardson; a sister Rhonda Desilus; four grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father James Ridley.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 16, 2017 at 12:00P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Calling hours are from 5-7 P.M. on Monday and 10:A.M. – 12:P.M. on Tuesday prior to the service.
