Obituary of Rose M. Roe

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved mother, Rose M. Roe, 88, of Rome, NY, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025. Born in New Berlin, NY, on July 12, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Mary (McDonald) Marquette. Rose was educated in both the Rome school district and the Academy of Holy Names. Following graduation from the Academy of Holy Names, Rose worked as an operator at the NY Telephone Company. She later worked at Rome DDSO for 17 years as a therapy aide, retiring in 1991.

Rose was united in marriage to Benjamin L. Bathke on April 10, 1958. Within that union, they were blessed with five loving children. Rose was later married to Samuel J. Roe on October 12, 1984. Rose was a proud mother and grandmother of 12 and was lovingly referred to by her 13 great-grandchildren as Gigi. Rose’s greatest joy was her family and friends, and she always looked forward to family functions and gatherings. Rose was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Peter’s Church in Rome.

Rose is survived by her children: Michele (Fred) Pacicca of Rome, Ben (Allyson Rowden) of Florida, Mary (Al) Moroughan of Rome, and Sharon (Steve) Savoy of Florida. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren: Justin (Heather) Pacicca, Eric Pacicca (Thomas Hart), Jennifer (Michael) Gandy, Daniel (Ashley) Bathke, Kiri, Kyle, Kris, and Kendra Moroughan, Matthew Savoy, Joseph (Carissa) Savoy, and Tanya (Kevin) Brewster, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Also surviving are her many loving nieces, nephews, and Cousin Joanie.

In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by her daughter, Julie Bathke, her grandson Christopher Bathke, her brother and sister-in-law, James and Rita Marquette, and her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Louis Jennings.

Per Rose’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will gather for a Celebration of life at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome, NY 13440.
