Suzanne Marie LaPointe

   Suzanne Marie LaPointe 67, of Rome, passed away on December 6, 2024, at Oneida Health Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on June 1, 1957, in Rome, N.Y. a daughter of the late Charles and Marjorie Coffelt Reed. Sue was a graduate of Camden High School, she then pursued a career as a Nurse’s Aide. Following her retirement from healthcare, Sue accepted a position with the Cathedral Corporation of Rome, N.Y. Sue was formerly united in marriage to Bob Cummings prior to his passing. She went on to marry Bruce J. LaPointe in a ceremony which took place in Westmoreland, N.Y. on July 12, 2014.

   Sue will be remembered as a loving caring person who volunteered her time working at the Rome Rescue Mission and Loaves & Fishes food pantry. In her spare time Sue enjoyed Swimming at the Rome YMCA, playing bingo at the Lee Center Fire Hall, playing cards or shopping with friends, going

to the Iron Kettle for blueberry pancakes and collecting Betty Boop memorabilia, reading or watching court tv. She was a talented baker, her friends referred to her as Sue the Baker. Sue truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and celebrating Christmas in July.

   Surviving is her beloved husband, Bruce J. LaPointe of Rome; two sons, Michael and Matthew Cummings both of Rome; stepchildren, Harry and Suzanne Lewis, Robert and Wonda Hunt and their children Bruce, Bobby  and Sheena Bassett; a step granddaughter, Amber Gillespie and her children; three sisters, Linda Lane Bachman, Sharon (Norman) Ostrander and Deana March; two brothers, Wayne Millken and Kenny (LeAnn) Reed; two grandsons, Matthew and Nikko; along with several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Chuck Reed and sister, Donna Reed and stepdaughter, Jill Gillespie.

   The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Oneida Health Hospital for the wonderful care which they provided to Suzanne and her family during her stay.

   Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 2 to 4 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4 P.M.
