Joseph E. Benoit

   Joseph E. Benoit, 79, of Rome, passed away at his home with his wife Nancy at his side on October 21, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. a son of the late Dr. Richard and Josephine Rassulo Benoit. Joe was united in marriage to Nancy Roth on November 5, 1977, in All Saints Episcopal Church of Utica. For over 30 years Joe was employed as a Field Service Engineer with Empire Crane of Syracuse. As a Field Service Engineer Joe traveled the world educating other Field Service Engineers and repairing heavy equipment. He was formerly employed by Pettibone of Rome N.Y.  In his younger years, Joe was a former Black Belt and Karate Instructor. On weekends he and his brother Dick enjoyed drag racing at the local tracks. Joe’s true passion in life was trapshooting. He was a member of the ATA since 1973 and shot over half a million registered targets. Joe made many friends in the trap shooting world while traveling the United States competing in different shoots.

   He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy of Rome, a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph T. and Judy Benoit od Canandaigua; a sister-in-law, Debbie Benoit of Rome; brother-in-law; Ronald Roth; cherished grandchildren; Bennett (Malaysia) Benoit, Breeanna Benoit and their mother, Heather Pritchard; a niece JoAnn Benoit and her son Rayan. Joe was predeceased by a son, Richard R. Benoit on April 21, 2018, and a brother, Richard (Dick) Benoit.

   The family wishes to thank Dr. Desai and his staff along with the staff of Hospice, especially nurse Sheila who provided Joe wonderful care through his journey.

   A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 30th at 2 P.M.   at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Rome N.Y.
