Robert John Johnson, 76, of Boonville, passed away October 11, 2024, at Rome Health after a courageous battle with his health. 

He was born July 7, 1948, in Utica, a son of the late William and Margaret (Thomas) Johnson.  Bob grew up on a local farm, and later became a truck driver. He had a passion for trucking and was trusted with many important jobs throughout the years.  He retired from Ocuto Blacktop and Paving after many years of service. Bob was a member of the Tappet Twirlers Automobile Club of Rome and loved classic cars and trucks.  He looked forward to getting into the woods with his sons every hunting season. Bob was united in marriage to Wanda Rutledge in February 1992.  Together they shared 48 years of love, devotion and happiness with each other and with their children and grandchildren.

Bob will be missed by his loving wife Wanda; his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert D. (Laurie) Johnson of Ava, Eric (Yanire) Johnson of Rome, Brian (Brittany) Rutlege-Johnson of Ava, and Timothy (Arielle) Rutledge-Johnson of Boonville; ten grandchildren, Derek (Katie), Heather, Brittany (Peyton), Alessandra (Seth), Eris, Eriyah, Yanielis, Charoline, Jeanpaul,  Barrett John, and one on the way – Orson; five great-grandchildren, Addison, Kennedy, Quinn Everleigh-Ray, Mason, and Grey; Bob’s twin brother, Ronald Johnson and his significant other Jamie Secor of North Western.  He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor “Jane” Ostrander, and grand-daughter Quinn Ann Johnson. 

All are invited to call Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 5-7pm at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome and stay for a Celebration of Bob’s Life at 7pm.  He will be buried at Westernville Cemetery at 10am Thursday morning.  Please consider donations in Bob’s memory to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
