Roger W. Scouten

   Roger W. Scouten 73, of Rome, passed away on September 24, 2024, at Rome Health with his loving family at his side. He was born on July 23, 1951, in New Hartford, N.Y., a son of the late Clifford and Beatrice Ann Williams Scouten. Roger was a graduate of New Hartford High School, he continued his education by attending Mohawk Valley Community College. On September 8, 1973, Roger was united in marriage to Raylane Brockway. Together they raised three daughters, Nicole, Holly and Heather. For over 25 years Roger was employed by Local 35 of Utica as a contractor prior to his retirement. Roger was a former member of St. Mary’s Church of Rome. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball teams and traversing New York State attending their sporting events. Roger was an avid bowler and Utica Comets fan. His true passion in life was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren during the holiday season.

   He is survived by his cherished daughter’s, Nicole Scouten (Sean Burlingame), Holly and James Ernenwein and Heather Scouten all of Rome; mother-in-law, Mary Brockway; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Brockway and Mary Jane Scouten; five grandchildren, Leland Burlingame, Elise Burlingame, Jayden Ernenwein, Aiyana Ernenwein and Britton Scouten. Roger was predeceased by his wife, Raylane; two brothers, David and Timothy Scouten; a brother-in-law, David Brockway and sister-in-law, Linda Longto.

   Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 11 A.M. to 1P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road Rome. A graveside service will follow at 1 :45 P.M. at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rome.
