Obituary of Gary A. Mitchell

Gary A. Mitchell, 76, of Boonville, NY passed away on September 16, 2024, at Rome Health following a brief illness.  Born on September 22, 1947, in Rome, N.Y. a son of Robert L. Mitchell and Lois A. Snyder Mitchell. Following graduation Gary was employed by Bank of America and Oneida National Bank where he was a dedicated and well-liked employee. Following his retirement from the banking industry he spent several years as a bus monitor for Birnie Bus.

Gary was a huge supporter of Holland Patent sports; especially the Football and Basketball teams where he was known as “Super Fan”. He also enjoyed attending Northern Fast Pitch Softball League games. Gary was a member of the Cold Brook Methodist Church where he enjoyed conversing and fellowshipping with his church family. He was also a member of the Rome Elks Lodge and the Roberts Post American Legion.

Gary is survived by several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert L. and Lois A. Mitchell.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday September 24, 2024, from 4:00-6:00PM at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome, NY. A Funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM. Burial will take place at the Floyd Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his family.
