My condolences to all Bob was a part of my life when he and Elly were good friends with my parents for many years. He was especially a good friend to my dad. When I lost my folks in 2012 bob was a huge comfort to me. In 2015 I went back to work for the Air Force and he took in my little dog freeway as his own and loved her very much for almost 8 years. Bob continued to be a good friend to me we did things together and shared alot of memories. We also did dinner every Friday night and at times I took him places as well. I can't express how good and caring Bob was as a person and will miss him dearly. Bob was a true Christian in every sense and I hope he rests in peace. Love you Bob see u all when it's time

As a Pleasant Lake friend, Bob was like family! Ever kind and gracious and always knowing your name and sincerely asking you how you were. He was such a kind, warm and caring man! You will be greatly missed Bob, but even now you are probably racing the angels in your plane. May you Rest in Peace!!

I've known Bob as 'Gramps', a friendly neighbor and friend my entire life. When I was a little boy I was at camp with gramps and his grandson Pauly who was my best friend. We were sitting by the river watching all the big kids go down the rapids on their tubes and I mistakenly thought "that doesn't look too hard" and dove in and was pulled under immediately. Bob was quick to jump in and pull me out, reminding me that the rapids are no place for a kindergartener... all these years later I suddenly realize there's a chance my children's- and my existence might be attributed to Bob Schmalz. He gifted me my beloved beagle Annie more than 15 years ago. I can still hear the fond memory of his radio coming from his workshop. Our family will always cherish his memory as he has impacted our lives in such a powerful way. Rest in peace Gramps. We love you and we'll see you soon. -JDS
