Obituary of Jerome A. Anderson

Please share a memory of Jerome to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jerome Anderson was born in Manhattan 07/09/1958, where he attended and graduated from public school. Jerome was the youngest of 6 siblings and was pre-deceased by his father Frank Anderson and his mother Lena Harris and brothers Ronald Hoyer and Juan Perez. Sister Janice Hoyer passed during the pandemic, the same day as his mother Lena. Jerome is survived by brother Larry Harris of Nanuet NY, Alicia Perez of NYC and many nieces and nephews.

Jerome grew up in Harlem and later, Queens NY. In the early 1990s Jerome moved to Utica NY, sight unseen where he found an apartment near Johnson Park. Jerome furthered his education at MVCC and SUNY IT, culminating in a degree in computer technology, which resulted in him, irrespective of his job title, becoming the “go to” guy for any glitch or problem anyone was having with their computer. Jerome spent his workdays with BOCES, Utica Community Action, Oneida County Workforce Development and the Workforce Board, et al.

Throughout the many programs that Jerome served, he became a friend to anyone he encountered. His office bore a sign with this quote from Gordon B. Hinckley. “Being humble means recognizing that we are not on this earth to see how important we can become, but to see how much difference we can make in the lives of others”. Jerome was vital member at the Kingdom Harvest Apostolic Church in Rome, NY. His strong faith helped him persevere through issues with his health that he chose not to burden others with.

The final words that he shared on his social media account were these, “I don’t say it enough but thank you God for carrying me through my worst days and my best days”. It’s the best days that Jerome would want us to remember. Friends, family, co-workers, students, clients, doctors, nurses, cashiers at the supermarket, literally anyone he could meet on this earth, could be charmed by Jerome’s friendly demeanor, deep infectious laugh or subtle wit. Jerome was deeply loved and will be missed dearly by countless people.
