Edward William Housel


Edward W. Housel, 76, of Rome, N.Y. passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, at Bethany Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 23, 1947, in Elmira, N.Y., the son of the late Hugh and Louise Butler Housel. Ed was a graduate of Waverly High School; following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Ed proudly served his country as an Aerial Gunner / Technician for over 20 years until his retirement in 1987 as a Master Sergeant. On July 12, 1969, Ed was united in marriage to Barbara Baier. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Ed went on to accept a position with Turning Stone Casino as a Floor Supervisor. In his spare time Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and stamp collecting.


He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Housel of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Lloyd Barrigar of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Debra Housel of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother, Thomas (Mary) Housel of FL; a sister, Alice (Gerald) Barnhart of AL. He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah, Clarissa and Zachary; and great-grandchildren Maddox and Sedona.


Funeral services are private and there are no calling hours.
