Obituary of Rose P. DeAngelo
Rose P. DeAngelo
Rose P. DeAngelo, 77, of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, at Oneida Healthcare, with her loving family at her side. Born on April 14, 1946, in Rome, N.Y., a daughter of the late Gennaro “Jerry” and Grace Vescio Gulla. Rose was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. .She continued her education at SUNY Oswego. On February 15, 1974, she was united in marriage to Bernard DeAngelo. Together they raised three children, Jim, Elyse, and Jeff, until Bernie’s passing on June 15, 1986. For over 35 years Rose taught in the Rome City School District. Rose was a member of St. John the Baptist Church of Rome. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sitting by the pool watching her grandkids swim, hosting family parties, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Rose is survived by a daughter, Elyse DeAngelo and her significant other, Dan Enwright; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lillian DeAngelo; son, Jeff DeAngelo; a sister, Johanna Fiorenza; a sister-in-law, Peggy Gulla; five grandchildren, Jimmy, Olivia, Sofia, Mikey and Cole; and many nieces and nephews with whom she had special relationships. Rose was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Mickey and Robert Gulla; two brothers-in-law, August Fiorenza and Vincent “Vinny” DeAngelo; and her sister-in-law, Fran Militano; nephew, Michael Gulla.
To all she met, Rose was gracious, kind, and loving–a true friend to all. Rose was a woman who helped others become more complete versions of their true selves. A learner for life, Rose continued to take classes throughout her career and in retirement. Tutoring her grandchildren through many of their classes, often holding class sessions over the phone or at her kitchen table gave Rose her teaching “fix.” She painted with the grandkids, and wrote. She loved games, especially Scrabble. In her final days, Rose said she had hoped to have “so much more time together.” She wishes that we all make the most of our days, are kind and loving in word and in deed, and maintain our friendships as she helped sustain the many friendships that enriched her life.
Rose’s children would like to thank the ICU Staff at Oneida Health Care for the wonderful care and compassion which they provided to Rose during her stay. She was grateful for their love and care. Her family would also like to thank her close friends and family who loved mom and helped us comforting and caring for mom. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association: 125 Business Park Dr #106, Utica, NY 13502 or Project Purple - A World Without Pancreatic Cancer: 115 Main St, Seymour, CT 06483.
