Carol Ann (Carmody) Baldygo, 1944 – 2023
Lee Center, N.Y. - Carol Ann (Carmody) Baldygo, 79, of Lee Center, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11th, 2023. Carol was born in Rome, NY on Sept. 25, 1944, daughter to the late Warren and Olevia (McIntyre) Carmody. She married her loving husband William Baldygo on June 15, 1992, in Lee Center, N.Y.
Carol was a 1962 graduate of St. Aloysius Academy and earned her New York State Registered Nursing Degree in 1965 from The Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown, NY. Carol started her nursing career at Mohawk Valley General Hospital in Ilion, NY continuing at Rome Memorial Hospital where she proudly worked for over 40 years as an RN prior to her retirement. Carol was a compassionate, hardworking, no-nonsense women whose caring spirit not only defined her career, but her dedication to her family. Carol was known for always going above and beyond to ensure the well-being and happiness of her family members and friends. She was a member of St. Peter’s and St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph Women’s Club, Rome Twigs, the Lee Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Rome Investment Club.
Carol enjoyed life to the fullest. She cherished the lifetime of memories made with extended family at camp in Old Forge, NY. She loved laughing with her close friends around the card table and nights out with her theater group. Carol’s many interests included travel, bowling, golf, cross country skiing, playing softball, reading, word and math puzzles, testing new recipes, collecting Santas and making sure everyone was dressed warmly. However, those closest to her knew her true passion in her life was spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending their various sporting events, musical endeavors, and activities.
Carol is survived by her husband Bill, son Shawn (Caroline) Hughes of Utica; daughter Megan (David) Orsini of Guilderland; step-son William (Michelle) Baldygo of Beaver Creek, OH; step-daughter Cheryl Ross of Camp Hill, PA; grandchildren Delaney Hughes (fiancé Deano Flemming), Callahan Hughes, Quinn Orsini, Devon Orsini, Matthew Baldygo, Christopher Baldygo, Josuha Baldygo, Autumn Ross, Jesslyn Ross; great-granddaughter Rynleigh Flemming; brother Thomas (Arlene) Carmody, of Phoenix, AZ.; sister Mary Frances Carmody, Rome, NY; sister-in-law Nancie Carmody of Old Forge NY, in-laws Sheila Daly of Chelmsford, MA; Bernard (Karen) Baldyga of Boonville, NY; Robert Baldygo (Gail) of Staunton, VA; Susan Johnson of Berlin, MA; Barry (Marie) Baldigo Averill Park, NY; countless nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many very special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Elizabeth (Betty) and brother-in-law Richard (Dick) Borer, brother Daniel Carmody, special aunt, Mary McIntyre and mother-in-law Doris Baldigo.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 2-5 p.m., at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, NY. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, on Monday morning, December 18, 2023 at 10:30 at St. Joseph’s Church, 5748 Stokes Lee Center Road, Lee Center, NY 13363. Interment will take place in the spring at Lee Valley Cemetery in Lee Center, NY.
In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions in Mrs. Baldygo’s memory to the Siegenthaler Center c/o Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
