Timothy J. Hurley

Timothy J. Hurley, 73, of Bernhards Bay, and formerly of Syracuse, passed away on November 8, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born on May 9, 1950, in Rome, N.Y., the son of the late John R. and Anna Mae Hurley. Tim was a graduate of Corcoran High School and Hudson Valley Community College. Tim was employed by Onondaga Community College as an Audio-Visual Technician for over thirty years until his retirement. He was a member of the Most Holy Rosary Church of Syracuse. Tim was formerly united in marriage to Kathleen Mulroy and together they raised three children, Timothy Jr., Kevin and Mary Kate. Tim’s true passion in life was spending time on Oneida Lake with his entire family at Hurley’s Lake View Resort in North Bay.

Tim is survived by his daughter, Mary Kate Hurley of Syracuse; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Stacy Hurley of Rochester, Kevin and Jennifer Hurley of Seattle, Washington; two cherished grandsons, Brendan and Ryan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gretchen Sprock, Marguerite and Francis “Bud” Sanzone, Susan and Thomas Tokaryk; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Debra Hurley, Patrick and Michele Hurley; two sisters-in-law, Mary Nappa and Janet Hurley; two brothers-in-law, Danny and Martha Mulroy, Michael Mulroy; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones to whom he was affectionately known as Papa Tim. He was predeceased by his former wife, Kathleen Hurley; two brothers, Thomas Hurley and John “Jack” Hurley; a sister-in-law, Lois Hurley and brother-in-law, Charles Sprock.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 4-6 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11 A.M. at St. Peter’s Church of Rome. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
