Susan S. Turner Obituary

Susan S. Turner, 76, of Rome, and formerly of Westdale, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023, with her family beside her at the Grand Nursing Home of Rome. She was born on July 25, 1947, in Rome, a daughter of the late Nelson and Mary Miller Secor. On October 7, 1972, she was united in marriage to William Turner, this blessed union lasted forty years until Bill’s passing on April 6, 2012.


 Susan previously worked at the  Stonehedge Nursing Home as a CNA, she was later employed by St. Elizabeth Hospital as a Nurse Technician; she then accepted a position  as a Therapy Aid.


Susan enjoyed arts and crafts and spending time with her animals. She loved to tend to her rose garden alongside her husband Bill. Her favorite time of year was the Holiday Season, which for Susan started with Halloween. On Halloween the family would gather at her house to carve pumpkins,  make popcorn balls, and drink homemade hot chocolate.


Susan was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Laribee; her five brothers, Ronald, Nelson, Clarence, David and Jerry Secor. Susan is survived by her Sister, Robin Stangel of Pennsylvania; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Kay and Michael Weber of Camden, Christie Turner of Osceola; two sons and a daughter- in-law, Shawn and Michelle Benjamin of Westdale, Francis “Benji” Benjamin of Camden; 17 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.


Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 4-7 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.


 A celebration of Life will be held on Friday at 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Immediately following we will continue the celebration at the Verona VFW 4928 Spring Rd., Verona, NY13478


 Interment will take place in Townsend Cemetery, Stittville.
