Georgia K. Newbury Obituary

Georgia K. Newbury “Kitty”, 62 formerly of Rome, NY passed away on August 31, 2023, in Dunedin, Florida. Born in Oneida, NY on July 22, 1961, she was a daughter of Alfred R. Armstrong and Audrey Wilson. Following graduation Georgia went on to complete her bachelor’s at SUNY Polytechnic Institute and pursued a career as a social worker.


Georgia took great pride in her work and used her passion and empathy to help those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction problems along with the many other struggles life may have brought upon them; Georgia usually had a solution and always had a kind heart and listening ear. Georgia’s kindness and caring demeanor was instrumental in helping guide countless individuals; she touched many lives with her gifts and her caring spirit will be missed by all.  Aside from helping those in need Georgia enjoyed time spent with family and friends, she especially enjoyed her role as a grandmother.  Georgia was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome where she enjoyed fellowshipping with other members of the congregation. She was a former member of Grace Baptist Church of Rome.


Georgia is survived by her mother Audrey Wilson of Rome, NY; her father Alfred Armstrong and stepmother, Rosalie Armstrong of Florida; brother, Jamie R. Armstrong of Florida; sister, Lisa McCarron of Rome, NY; and grandchildren, Alexis Newbury and Joseph Papai.


A funeral service will take place on Friday September 8, 2023, at 6PM, calling hours will take place prior to the funeral service from 3-6PM at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, NY 13440.
