Lyle L. Evans, 93 of Rome, NY, passed away on July 2, 2023, at Rome Health following a brief illness.  He was born on January 23, 1930, in Rome, NY, he was the son of Howard and Marie Schmitt Evans. Lyle was educated in the Rome schools he later joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country from 1951-1953. After his time in the Army Lyle had a successful career as a truck driver and was employed by Coleman Brothers and Red Star trucking, he retired after 20 years of loyal service. Lyle enjoyed time spent with family and friends and was a true animal lover. Lyle was a member of H.R. Post # 24, the Frank J. Steczko Post, and the Stanwix Veterans Men’s Club.

Lyle is survived by his daughter Margo (Thomas) Renfrew of Cleveland, NY; grandchildren Karl Sherman II, Aron (Mia) Sherman, and Katerina La Forest; extended family Michelle and Kevin McGarry and their children, Tara, and Matthew. He was predeceased by his beloved companion, Marlene Sharron; a daughter, April Jaynes and his brother Eugene Evans.

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday July 6, 2023, from 11:00am to 12:00pm a Celebration of Life will immediately follow at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, NY 13440. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to do so may make a donation in Lyle’s memory to the Humane Society of Rome, 6247 Lamphear Rd, Rome, NY 13440.
