A. Margaret Brockway, 96, of Sylvan Beach, NY passed away at home with her family by her side. Margaret was born September 3, 1926 in Rome, NY and was a daughter of Thomas J. Basenfelder and Antoinette Campanaro Basenfelder. Margaret was educated in at  Saint Aloysius Academy, she was the recipient of superior academic achievement at Excelsor Business School. Margaret had a successful career with Rome Catholic Charities and Rossi Construction Company of Rome until her retirement.

Margaret was united in marriage to Kenneth Edward Brockway on August 29, 1946, in a ceremony which took place at St. Peters Church in Rome, NY. They welcomed four children together who were Margaret’s absolute pride and joy. The two shared a blessed life together until Kenneth’s passing.

Margaret’s greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed anytime spent with family and friends, she was a member of St. Mary’s by the Lake Church where she found great fellowship.

Margaret is survived by her children, Thomas Brockway, Florida, Paul Brockway, Utica, NY, Joanne and George Sawner, Sylvan Beach, NY; grandchildren, Christine Burns, Donald Kane, Nicole Brockway, Michael Sawner, Raymond Sawner; 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, and a daughter Mary Kay Kane.

A graveside service will be held in the Spring at St. Peters Cemetery in Rome. Services are entrusted to Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home.
