Obituary of Mildred L. Buczek

Mildred L. Buczek, 100, of Rome, N.Y. passed away peacefully on January 14, 2023, at Bethany Gardens Nursing Home. She was born in Rome on December 17, 1922. Mildred was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Anna Lewicki. Mildred graduated high school and had a career specializing as a procurement specialist at the Griffiss Air Force Base of Rome. Mildred was united in marriage to Ted R. Buczek, the two shared a blessed marriage and a wonderful life until his passing. She along with her husband and brother-in-law, Henry owned and operated the Gulf Gas Station at corner of Black River Blvd and Thomas Street, along with the Revere Liquor.

Mildred lived a very full life; she was very athletic and competitive in sports. She played basketball in high school, loved to play a round of golf, and enjoyed bowling as well. Mildred was an excellent card player and thoroughly enjoyed time spent playing in her card group. She also looked forward to spending time at the Casino, where she put her card skills to use. She was a member of the Transfiguration Church of Rome, a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employers.

Mildred is survived by a cherished niece and goddaughter, Deborah Luvera of New Hartford; a sister-in-law Betty Lewicki; several nieces and nephews, Paul and Karen Zuk, William and Sue Zuk, Roger and Debbie Lewicki, Paul Lewicki, Peggy and Arthur Collingsworth. She was predeceased by; brothers, Paul Lewicki and Thomas Jeffrey Lewicki; sisters, Pauline Stamick and Mary Zuk. 

A Memorial Service  will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11A.M. at Transfiguration Church of Rome.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.
