Brian Keith Hawkins

Brian K. Hawkins, 63, of Rome, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022 following a long illness. He was born on September 29, 1959, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to the late Busby and Ruby (Ferguson) Hawkins.

Brian leaves behind to mourn his passing, his beloved wife, Jacqueline Boyd Hawkins of Rome with whom he was united on August 31, 1985.  Brian also leaves behind two brothers - Brad and Busby (Lori) Hawkins both of Rome, and honorary brother, Tim “T” Williams (Raleigh-Durham, NC). He also leaves three sisters - Rhonda Hawkins (Jersey City, NJ), Rochelle Hawkins (Pittsburgh, PA) and Renee Hawkins (Middletown, NY).  Brian is also survived by his mother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lee Bryant and Marilyn Hawkins, both of Rome. He is also survived by nieces Krystal Hawkins, Nicole Putrello, and Amber Chisholm. He also leaves nephews Brandon Hawkins, Elliott Chisholm and Justin Boyd, as well as a host of loving family members and friends.

The United States Air Force brought Brian’s family to Rome in 1974, and he was a graduate of Rome Free Academy.  Always with a song on his mind, Brian will be remembered as a talented singer, who performed as a solo artist and with several bands. Brian was also a self-taught piano and guitar player and wrote his own songs. Brian was a gifted artist who loved to draw and paint, was an avid reader, loved staying up on current events, and loved to engage in philosophical discussions with family and friends. He will always be remembered as a “Free Spirit” and was often called “Marley” locally. Most recently, Brian was employed by Birnie Bus in Rome, NY.  He was employed by UPS in Secaucus, NJ and was a truck driver for several years. He truly enjoyed traveling across the United States, taking in all of the beautiful scenery and meeting people. During his travels, Brian always had his guitar on hand and was ready to sing. However, Brian’s most memorable work experience was working for singer/songwriter Whitney Houston’s company, “Nippy, Inc.”, based in Newark, New Jersey. Brian worked for Ms. Houston for 10 years and was able to observe and experience many interesting people, music and places.

Brian’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 1 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.
