Obituary of William E. Lennon

William E. Lennon, 78, of the Town of Lee and formerly of Blue Mountain Lake, passed away at his home on November 18, 2021, with his loving family at his side. Bill was born on September 30, 1943, in Troy, N.Y. a son of the late Emmott and Annette Parker White Lennon. On August 2, 1961, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for over 24 years, including two tours in Vietnam. Bill was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Stanton on April 15, 1967, at St. Peter’s Church of Rome. Together they raised three children, Christine, Shawn and Erin. Bill converted to Catholicism after 16 years of marriage and was a member of St. Peter’s Church of Rome and St. Paul’s Church of Blue Mountain Lake. He served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector for both churches as well as Confirmation Catechist at St. Mary’s Church in Indian Lake. Bill was a member ofthe 49 FIS Sergeants Association at Griffiss Air Force Base, a retired EMS First Responder of Blue Mountain Lake and former member of the Lee Legion. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Brian Lipkin, Rome; two sons, Shawn Lennon (JoAnne Premo) and Erin and Destiny Lennon, all of Rome; cherished grandchildren, William Buckner(Kali Walsh), Philip Lipkin, Erin Lennon,Jr., Alexus Lennon and Edwin Lennon; a brother, Donald (Kathy) Lennon, Maine; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Mary) Stanton and John Stanton; nieces Amy (Donald) Smith and Katherine Stanton; nephews, Owen (Katie) and Geoffrey (Erica) Lennon and Joseph Stanton (fiancé, Melanie Rose); great nieces, Keira Lennon and Kayla Smith; great nephews, Brody Lennon, Kris Smith, Landon Stanton-Lust; aunt, Gerry Lou Stanton; and special friends, Frederick and Ruth Everett. Bill was predeceased by his parents, in-laws, Edwin and Mary Clare Stanton and a sister-in-law, Carol Stanton. The family would like to thank Dr. Sultana Razia, Dr. Stephanie Rice and their staffs as well as the nurses at the Slocum Dickson Infusion Center. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and laboratory staff at St Luke’s Hospital and St Elizabeth’s Medical Center as well as the Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance Service and HOSPICE for their care and support. A Mass of Christian burial, with Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, from 4-7 p.m. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome. Interment will take place in St. Peters Cemetery.
