Obituary of Harry Vaughan Laufer

Harry V. Laufer, 80, of Port Ewen, N.Y. and formerly of Lee, N.Y. passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness on November 7, 2021, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Born December 19, 1940, a son of the late Earl and Hazel Vaughan Laufer. Harry had a successful career as an electrical engineer, working for IBM for 30 years until his retirement. While in Poughkeepsie, he was an active member of the ski club and the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club. After his retirement, he headed for the north woods of Old Forge before returning to Rome and Lee. He had a world of friends, both old and new, in his travels. He was a former member of the Lee Methodist Church of Lee, NY. Harry is survived by his sister Elizabeth Mundt (Beau Abrahamsen), Ulster Park NY; niece, Kirsten Mundt, and a great niece, Skylar Wolfe, in Santa Fe, and nephew, Alex Mundt, Geneva. In addition, Harry’s fraternity brothers, especially John Templin, and old buddies from Poughkeepsie, have been like family through thick and thin. Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 6-8 PM at Strong-Burns and Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd, Rome, NY 13440. A funeral service will be held on Saturday November 13, 2021, at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Lee State Cemetery following the funeral.
