Mr. McFadden was my 6th grade teacher (1990-1991) and as someone else mentioned - everyone wanted him to be their teacher. I think my mom requested him for me. My Uncle John had him years before me, and it was Mr. McFadden who realized he had dyslexia and helped him get the assistance he needed, which was life changing for my uncle. I remember that all of Mr. McFadden's stories had to do with Oogie and Lula, (spelling?), that he would occasionally divide us into seating sections called "Angel Cats" and "Devil Cats" based on our behavior, that he had a huge sweet tooth and always a drawer full of candy (with a variety of questionable states of freshness of said candy/pastries inside.) I remember him being a big fan of recess - he always had us playing soccer as a class. I was bullied a lot in 6th grade, and he tried to reassure my mom that he had an eye on things, that I was hanging in there, that it would be ok. He was approachable and kind. He will be missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his husband and family as they mourn his death.

Dear, sweet Fred -- what a kind, giving, remarkable man you were! I have so many fond memories of time spent with you & Dennis (and Raymond & the kitties!) -- sharing stories and laughs over a meal after spending another wonderfully long day pouring through the Archive. As generous as you were sharing your remarkable collection, it was your friendship that was your greatest gift. I thank you for your trust in me & for welcoming me into your home and heart. You will be missed -- and forever cherished! And I know that somewhere, you're enjoying the greatest concert ever, and she's singing just for you! With love & gratitude, -Ranse

I was a 6th grade student of his at ridge mills. He was my all time favorite teacher. He made us feel wanted and worthy. When we moved on from his class, we felt ready and brave. I don't know how else to put it.

I was a 6th grade student back in 1969 -70.and was fortunate enough to have Mr. McFadden. I say fortunate because there were 3 6th grades at Ridge and everyone wanted to be in his class. He was a kind and made learning fun. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Fred McFadden was a great friend of mine for over 40 years. We met because of our mutual interest in Judy Garland. Just another example of the very positive force for good she has been in my life. Fred and I enjoyed our collecting and sharing over many years and he was not only a wonderful and thoughtful friend but a great source in everything Garland. He will be so dearly missed by all of us who loved him. Rest in peace my friend. Charles Triplett
