Wayne V. Link passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on March 29, 2021. Born in Rome, NY he was a son of Volney and Marion Parrish Link. Wayne joined the Navy in 1952 and proudly served his country for four years. Wayne was employed by Rome Strip Steel and worked as a rolling mill operator. Wayne was united in marriage to June Mullen on February 28, 1960; together they shared a blessed union until her passing on March 28, 2006.
Wayne enjoyed watching NASCAR, drinking Old Mill, and donating his money to the casinos. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Wayne was also a member of the American Legion of Rome.
Wayne is survived by his daughter Jeannine and Tim Eastup of Camden; his sons William "Dobi" Link of Rome, Robert and Faith Link of Rome; brother Donald “Rick” Swancott of Taberg; sister Dianne “Midge” and Carl Elmendorf of Rochester, grandchildren Jonathon (Jessica), Samantha (Eric), Joan (Ryan); great grandchildren Jessa, Grayson, Mackenzie, Hayden, Blake, Brinley, Aiden, Wyatt, and Saige, special friend Patrica Swancott, and several nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Francis Link, Roger Link, and Dale Swancott.
The family would like to thank close family friends and Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Wayne while he was in their care, their kindness was immeasurable and will not be forgotten.
All are invited to call Friday, April 2, 2021 from 3-6pm at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome, NY 13440. A funeral service will follow at 6pm. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery of Rome NY on Monday April 5th. Anyone planning to attend is asked to please where a facemask and respect current social distancing guidelines.
