Obituary of Jill Collins Flanders

Jill Collins Flanders 84, of Rome, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2021, at Bethany Gardens Skilled Living center, with her children by her side. She was born on September 24, 1936, in Rome, N.Y. a daughter of the late John and Frances Dunn Collins. Jill attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, N.Y. where she earned her RN Degree and made many lifelong friendships. On September 22, 1962, she was united in marriage to Cedric Flanders in St. Peters Church, Rome. Together they celebrated 50 years of marriage, until Cedric’s passing on May 25, 2013. Jill attended St. Paul’s Church, Rome and was a member of the Rome Twigs, Lake Delta Yacht Club and Griffiss Ski Club. She was employed by Rome Hospital and several area nursing homes prior to her retirement. Jill is survived by her beloved children, Patricia and Dr. James Bremer, Rome, Bruce (Beth Phillips) Flanders, Rome; a son-in-law, Michael Kearney, Liverpool; a sisters-in-law, Jeanne Collins and niece Tracy Collins, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Brent Kearney, Andrew, Quinn and Jack Bremer, Lillian and Evelyn Flanders; along with nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Cedric Flanders, a daughter, Karen Kearney; a granddaughter, Kathryn Bremer and brother, John Collins. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Humane Society 6247 Lamphear Road, Rome NY 13440 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 12P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday from 10AM to 12PM prior to the service. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Rome. Anyone planning to attend services is asked to please wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing regulations.
