Desiree Antoinette Coleman, 43 of Rome, NY joined the angels in heaven on February 9th, 2021. Desiree was born at Rome Memorial Hospital on November 1, 1977. She was the daughter of Kimberly Davis and the late Tony Coleman. Desiree was a graduate of Rome Free Academy in 1996. She worked for Mohawk Valley Community Action at Griffiss Child Care Center as an Assistant Teacher for 23 years. While there, she attended Herkimer Community College and graduated in 2015 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. If you knew Desiree, you knew part of her earthly duties were to help inspire and educate children. She was a caring, loving, and a beautiful person inside and out. Desiree enjoyed reading, listening to New Kids on the Block, the Backstreet Boys, and was great at trivia games. Desiree’s smile and laugh were something that could change your mood in a heartbeat. Her infectious personality was a blessing to everyone she met. She was predeceased by her father, Tony Coleman; her grandparents, Carl & Patricia Nelson, Johnnie & Mae Frances Coleman; step grandmother, Lucille Coleman, great-grandparents, Jack & Lucille Graham; aunts, Wendy Nicholson & Carlese Nelson; uncles, Frank, Ernest & Ciero Coleman; and her brother, Darnell “Pete” Nelson. She is survived by her mother, Kimberly Davis of Rome, NY; her stepmother, MaryJo Coleman of Farmington, NY; her brothers, Richard Davis of Decatur, GA, Anthony (Carrie) Coleman of Macomb, Illinois, and Marcus Nelson of Needham, Massachusetts; her sisters, Trisha Coleman of Rochester, NY and Courtney Nelson of Rome, NY; several nieces and nephews, Amare, Olivia, Aria, Adale, Jeshua, Alahnia, Tryston, Jonathan, Lahnaya, Sarah and Tru; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She had a special place in her heart for her Uncle Jun Jun and Uncle Budgie as well as her Best Friends, April, Tara, Tammy, Alycia, Sean, Freddy, and Destini. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:30 PM at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 1-2:30 PM prior to service. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stokes in the Spring. Anyone planning to attend services is asked to please wear a mask and adhere to social distancing requirements.
