Ina A. Bennett Ina A. Bennett, 92, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2020, at the Sitrin Medical Rehabilitation Center, New Hartford. She was born on October 6, 1927, in Oneida, N.Y. a daughter of the late Harry and Pearl Preston Cornish. On May 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Francis G. Bennett. Ina was employed by the Westmoreland Central School District as a Cook Manager until her retirement. She was a member of the Bartlett Baptist Church, Stanwix Heights V.F.D. Auxiliary, Mohawk Valley Food Service Organization, Westmoreland and Kirkland Senior Citizens. Ina loved to play cards, take cruises and winter in Florida. Her true passion in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Ina and Hank loved to go camping and instilled their love of camping in their children and grandchildren. Many family memories were created while camping at Fish Creek Pond in Tupper Lake. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Diane Bennett, Florida, Bruce and Carol Bennett, Cooperstown, Brian and Emily Bennett, Rome. A daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Brian Street, Rome; grandchildren, Cathy and Bill Dosztan, Candy and Steve Akin, Victoria Bennett, Justin and Allison Bennett, Jacob and Kimberly Bennett, Jennifer and Daniel Vescio, Jodie and Joseph Killino, Melissa and Jared Obernesser; sixteen great grandchildren, along with two great- great grandchildren: several nieces and nephews. Ina was predeceased by her husband, Francis; two great grandsons, Cole Dosztan and Tucker Akin; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Otto Smith; a brother and sister-in-law, Winfred and Bernice Cornish. Ina’s family wishes to thank the staff of Sitrin Medical Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care and compassion Ina received during her short stay, along with Dr. Vivienne Taylor and the staff at Rome Medical Group and Dr. Kobylanski for always being so kind to Ina. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 11A.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 10AM – 11A.M. prior to the service. Burial will take place in Rome Cemetery. Anyone who plans to attend is asked to please wear a mask and adhere to social distancing requirements.
