Obituary of Paul James O'Brien

Paul J. O'Brien, 61, of Rome, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2020, at Crouse Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family at his side. He was born in Rome, N.Y., on May 12, 1958, a son of Gordon and June Daly O'Brien. Paul was a graduate of Holland Patent High School and Mohawk Valley Community College. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force and the United States Army. On November 14, 1986, Paul was united in marriage to Darlene Postiglion in a ceremony which took place in the Town of Western, N.Y. Paul was employed with the Oneida County Sheriff's Dept, New York State Department of Corrections, owner of O'Brien's Lawn Care until he retired. He was a member of the Kingdom Harvest Apostlic Church of Rome. He was a past Commander of the Westernville Legion. He loved sports, reading, music, hunting, fishing, day trips to Old Forge, and fantasy football. He loved to talk and was always smiling. On sunny days Paul could be found at Sleepy Hollow Golf course enjoying a round of golf with family and friends. One of Paul's favorite rituals was enjoying Sunday brunch with his family. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; his son Peter O'Brien (Christine Davis) of Rochester; his mother June O'Brien of Westernville; a brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Tammy O'Brien of Colorado. He was predeceased by his father, Gordon O'Brien. There are no calling hours. Inurnment with Military Honors will take place at a later date. A celebration of life ceremony will be planned at a time when all can be invited. Arrangements by Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.
