John “Jack” O’Connor 58, of Rome, passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 28, 1961, a son of Marilyn O’Connor. Jack was a graduate of Rome Free Academy Class of 1979. On September 4, 1993 he was united in marriage to Laura Mumford, in a ceremony which took place in St. Joseph’s Church, Lee Center. Jack was presently employed by the D.D.S.O. in Whitesboro and formerly worked for the A.R.C. He had a big presence and always wanted to put a smile on everyone’s face. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially with his camera in hand. Jack was fantastic at photography, drawing, painting, and loved to share his work. He was a master on the grill, in the kitchen, and took great pleasure in sharing a meal and a laugh with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Laura O’Connor of Rome; his mother, Marilyn O’Connor; three cherished children, Jacqueline, Utica, Clancy “Grace”, Buffalo and Noah O’Connor, Rome; siblings, Maureen O’Connor, Rome, Kellee Cania, GA, Christopher (Julie) O’Connor, GA, Andrea (Bryan) Hand, Rome; three grandchildren, Colin, Kylie and Abrianna; best friend Chris Jones; in-law’s, Harold and Arden Mumford. Funeral services are private and there are no calling hours due to the public health concerns of today. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date to be determined and all who knew him are encouraged to attend. Arrangements by Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.
