Obituary of James L. Vance

James L Vance, Esq James L Vance, 74, of Durhamville, passed away on March 19, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born October 8, 1944, in Cape Vincent, NY a son of Harold and Anne Miller Vance. Jim was a veteran of the US Air Force. Jim excelled at anything he did, whether it was selling Miracle Maid Cookware, Rich Plan Food Service, or being a tree surgeon. Of his many talents, Jim boasted of his love for etymology, writing poetry and most recently writing his memoir. He leaves a son, James (Jennifer) Vance, Rome; three daughters, Michelle Vance, Durhamville, Melissa Vance, Redfield and Melinda Wishart, Rome; a bonus daughter, Patti (Lee) Rooks of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Richard Vance, Parrish, FL, Leon (Kathy) Vance, Port Charlotte, FL and Theodore Vance, Westlake, Ohio; two sisters, Michelle (Jimmy) Savasuk, Punta Gorda, FL and Dawn (Robert) Morris, Arcadia, FL; and two sons-in-law, Frank Wishart, and Jack Kilts. He was referred to as "Papa Duck" by many but especially to his grandchildren, Kaylee, Anastasia, Jill, Emily, Willard, Anna and Ella; his great grandchildren, Liliana, Everett, Ezra and Ellis; and his bonus grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua and Alexis. Jim was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Thomas Vance, along with his best friend, Kanib. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 1-4 pm at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. A memorial service will immediately follow. All are encouraged to join the family in reminiscing at Old Erie Golf Club at 3387 Foster Corners Rd in Durhamville.
