Donald W. Stridiron - 72 Donald W. Stridiron Jr., 72, of Rome, New York, formerly of New York City, New York, North Bellmore and Westbury, New York died on January 12, 2019, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, N.Y. after a long battle with Diabetes, surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born November 9, 1946, in New York City, New York. On November 23, 1967, he married his loving and devoted wife, Peggy (Goodman) Stridiron. Donald attended New York City and North Bellmore Public Schools. Donald was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Air Force for 4 years as an aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged in1969. Donald was a sergeant in the Army Reserves for 14 years and served as a medic. He was employed by the Rome Development Center and was a supervisor at the Central New York Psychiatric Center, which he retired from in January 2001, with a total of thirty-seven years with the state of New York. Donald loved spending time hunting, motorcycling, range shooting, fishing and participating in the Rome bowling league. He was a lifelong member of the St. Francis Episcopal Church in North Bellmore. The ultimate joy for Donald was helping and giving to others. He always offered to help those in need and found joy in doing so. He was fondly known to his friends as "duck man, "and he used his charm and wit to engage people in lively conversations. He was always impeccably dressed and loved to give others tips on dressing. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Peggy (Goodman) Stridiron. Donald shared a very special and warm relationship with his wife Peggy, and the special care that Peggy gave Donald during his illness made his last years so much better. He also leaves behind a brother Edward P. Stridiron, of Rome, New York two grandchildren, Alexis N. Stridiron, of Niagara Falls, New York and Arianna Stridiron of Rome, New York and four great grandchildren, Aidan, Rayanah, and Lorenzo Stridiron of Niagara Falls, New York and Ramona Stridiron of Rome, New York. Donald also leaves to mourn his passing: Sister-in-laws: Phyllis Gordon, Carolyn Jordon, Betty Robbins Brother-in-laws: Lionel Goodman Sr. (Stella), Charles Leon Goodman (Joline) Nephews and Nieces: Otis L. Goodman, John D. Jordan (Gabrielle), Lionel Goodman II (Erica), Lionel Goodman III, Max Goodman, Kaleb T. Goodman, L Lisa (Goodman) Leuthauser, Erica (Goodman) Tracey (Patrick), Aaron Goodman (Cassandra), Alexandria Schremmer (Daniel), and Troy Michael, Monica and Stridiron, Cousins: Vera Miller, Phillip Cooke, Estelle Mellis And many other beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Donald is predeceased by his parents, Donald W. Stridiron Sr. and Agnes Elizabeth (Cooke) Peters, his son David M. Stridiron, and his loving mother and father in law Coy (Lillian) Goodman Sr. The Family would like to thank Dr. Gunner Anderson, Nurse Jennifer Gonyea and the entire nursing staff at the Mohawk Glen Dialysis Unit for their special care and comfort given to his wife and family during this time. The Dialysis Unit at Mohawk Glen was exceptionally kind to Donald throughout the time he spent with them. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Rome Dialysis Unit. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 12:00 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday from 3-6 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery.
