Bonnie Lou Leavitt, 79, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2018. Bonnie was born on March 1, 1939, in Coudersport, PA, a daughter of the late Gordon and Bernice (Badman) Smith. Bonnie was married to Claude Leavitt on December 18, 1960. The couple shared many happy years together, raising their children and traveling the world, until Claude's death in 2013. Bonnie worked at El-Chico's for many years and was loved by all the regulars. She lived life to the fullest, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed every day. She was an "extreme couponer" before it became a tv show and loved to compost and tend to her vegetable and flower gardens. Bonnie was an amazing baker and cook who loved to feed her family, made candles and was a former Girl Scout Leader. She loved games of chance and was a very successful poker player. She also enjoyed watching sports of every kind and would cheer the loudest when her team was winning. She is survived by her three daughters, Sandra and John Dempsey of Whitesboro, Sharon Leavitt and companion Kevin Fisher of Rome, and Susan and James Hansen of Charlton, NY; eleven grandchildren, Dan, Aaron, Matt, Adam, Abby, Alex, Jack, Katie, Becky, Stephanie and Jessica; seven great-grandchildren, Aiden, Francesca, Orion, Ares, Raya, Gage and Connor; brother, Derl Smith of FL; sister, Linda and Bob Mellen of Ballston Spa; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude, three grandchildren, Natalie, Michael and Nicholas, great-grandson Logan, nephew Claire and several brothers and sisters. All are invited to a Memorial Service at 11am on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome.
