John E. Day John E. Day, 79, of Rome, passed away on December 2, 2018, at Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born on July 22, 1939, a son of the late Walter and Kathleen Walsh Day. John was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy and on November 3, 1962 he was united in marriage to Roxanne Caraher, in a ceremony which took place at St. Mary's Church, Rome. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kristen and Frank Pepe, Utica, Shannon and David Wilczak, Rome, Shelley Day, Utica; three sisters, Mary Wilson, Utica, Jean (Richard) Curry, VA, Patricia (Edwin) Urtz, Maryland; a cherished grandson, Jack Pritchard, Rome; several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by a sister, Donna Schmandt and a brother Thomas Day. The family wishes to thank Dr. Chester Patrick for the many years of caring for their father as well as the staff of the Pines of Utica and St. Luke's Hospital for their compassion during his short stay at each facility. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis TN 38105-192 Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 6, 2018, at 6:00 P.M. at Strong- Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday from 3-6 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rome.
