Carl E Parker Jr, 84, of Rome passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on November 11, 2018 at Rome Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born on October 15, 1934 in Rome to Helen Badigo Parker and Carl E Parker. On April 18, 1964 in St Kilian's Church, Farmingdale, NY, he married Judith M. Allee. He went to RFA and graduated from MVCC in 1970. Carl was a proud member of the US Navy. As a Korean Veteran he served in active duty from 1952-1954 continuing in the Naval Reserves from 1954-1960. He was honorably discharged in 1960. Carl was employed at Rome Trust from 1954-1956. In 1956 he began a career of 38 years at Canterbury Press until his retirement in 1994. After retirement, Carl enjoyed driving cars for Davidson Chevrolet and delivering medications to customers of Empire Pharmacy. Carl had a big heart and loved people. He had a special skill of listening and would stay and chat with the people he delivered to when they had a problem. Carl was a member of St Joseph's Church, Lee Center, Rome Elks Lodge #96, Lee Post of the American Legion, VFW, Long Lake Fish and Game Club and a former member of Knights of Columbus, Teugega Country Club and Lake Delta Yacht Club. Carl loved golfing, bowling, hunting and most especially, fishing. He spent many summers at his camp in Long Lake, NY and many winters at Gulf Shores, AL. Traveling was always a pleasure for Carl. Several years of his retirement were spent driving around the United States and Canada with Judy in their motor home. His family adored him and he made friends everywhere he went. Carl is survived by his beloved family, his wife of 54 years, Judy, two daughters, Susan and Frank Zdanowicz of Oneida, and Donna and Mike Lahey of Whitesboro, one son Craig of East Hampton, CT, four grandchildren; Ryland and Megan Parker, and Parker and Peyton Lahey; sister Donna Guerrieri of Rome; brother Richard and Barbara of Rome and many special nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff of 3 South Rehab Unit at Rome Extended Care. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 15 at St Joseph's Church, Lee Center with a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Robert Kelly as celebrant. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, November 14 at Strong-Burns and Sprock Funeral Home from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carl's memory to Jervis Public Library.
