Shirley L. Dempsey Shirley L. Dempsey, 95, of Rome, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2018, at the Colonial Park Nursing Home. She was born on June 6, 1922, in Rome, N.Y. a daughter of the late Herman and Edith Shaler Snyder. On February 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Harold Dempsey in a ceremony which took place in Stittiville, N.Y. Harold passed away on December 3, 1996. For over forty years, Shirley owned and operated Shirley's Beauty Salon of Stittiville and Holland Patent. She was a member of the Floyd United Methodist Church. Shirley enjoyed going out to dinner, camping at Kayuta Lake Camp Grounds and square dancing. She is survived by two brothers, Lawrence (Gloria) Snyder, Rome, Rev. William (Ruth) Snyder, Newport, N.C.: two sister's, Janet Heldman, Holland Patent and Lois Mitchell, Rome; a special nephew and caregiver, Larry Heldman, Utica; along with several nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by a sister, Beverly J. Kingsbury. Memorial contributions may be made to Floyd Methodist Church 8398 New Floyd Road, Rome, N.Y. 13440 or the Rome Humane Society 6247 Lamphear Road, Rome N.Y. 13440 Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 1:00 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday from 11:A.M. to 1: P.M. prior to the service. Interment will take place in Floyd Cemetery.
