Obituary – Angelita Egger
Angelita “Angie” Egger, of Rome, New York, peacefully passed away on May 14, 2026, at the age of 71.
She was born Angelita Pacheco in Dunkirk, NY, on November 30, 1954, and her family would eventually move to and settle in Rome, NY. She was the cherished wife of the late I. Robert “Bob” Egger, whom she lovingly married in 1979 at Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rome. Together, they built a life grounded in love, companionship, and devotion, sharing countless precious memories and a love for traveling to many tropical islands throughout their years together. They also greatly enjoyed cheering on the Buffalo Bills and traveling to Orchard Park to watch many games in person. Although Robert passed away in 2000, the love they shared remained forever close to Angelita’s heart, and his memory continued to be a lasting source of comfort, reflection, and enduring affection throughout her life.
Angelita was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and dedicated many years of her life to serving her community as a Court Attendant with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, retiring in 2014. Through her professionalism, reliability, and compassionate nature, she became known for fulfilling her responsibilities with dignity, respect, and genuine care for others. Her work reflected both a strong sense of duty and a natural ability to bring kindness and understanding to those she encountered each day. She was formerly employed by Rome Murphy Memorial Hospital, Mohawk Valley Community Action, and National Bank of Vernon. Angelita and Robert also owned and operated the Corner Tavern in Vernon. She was immensely proud of her Puerto Rican heritage and showed it through her cooking. Her passion for cooking for her family, friends, and coworkers was well known and enjoyed by all who were fed by her. Her pistachio cake was famous and will be missed by many. She was also known for pampering every dog that she owned throughout her life, making sure they lived their best lives.
Angelita leaves behind her beloved son, Robert Russell, and his wife Sandra of Lee, NY as well as a cherished daughter, Michele Meyers of Camden, NY. Her children were among the greatest joys of her life, and she shared with them a bond filled with love, devotion, support, and many treasured memories. She took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments and was a constant source of warmth and encouragement for her family. She also leaves behind three stepchildren; Dawn Haring, and her husband Charles of Clarence, NY, Mark Egger of Lee, NY, and Todd Egger of Atlanta, GA.
She is also survived by her ten beloved grandchildren, Aaron, Dylan, Alicia, Vanessa, Christopher, Ashley, Erik, Nicholas, Kevin, and Jayden who each held a very special place in her heart. Angelita cherished the time spent with them and found great joy in watching her family grow across generations. Her love, wisdom, and caring spirit will forever remain in their hearts. She also leaves behind three siblings, brothers Novelto “Poncho” Pacheco, and his wife Maria of Sacramento, CA, William “Billy” Marriott, and his wife Marcann of Yorkville, NY, and sister, Nilda Bolton of Rogersville, TN. She is also survived by four incredibly special people who were a reliable source of friendship to her over the years, Gary Fava, Karen Fung, Janet Bennet, and Shirley Campbell.
Besides her husband, Angelita was predeceased by her beloved mother, Maria Alicia Baez Marriott, and stepfather, William Marriott, whose love, and guidance helped shape the compassionate and devoted woman she became throughout her life. Four siblings also predeceased her; bothers, Jose “Joey”, Louis “Louie”, and Edwin “Philip” Pacheco, and sister, Elaine Peraza.
Services for Angelita will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Church of Rome. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5-7 P.M. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home 7751 Merrick Road, Rome.
