Ralph A. Pezzula

February 8, 1950 – August 2, 2025

Ralph A. Pezzula, 75, of Rome, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at Rome Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on February 8, 1950, in Rome, he was the son of the late Louis and Doris (Lighthall) Pezzula. A proud veteran, Ralph served honorably in the United States Air Force. He was first married to Jill Durdan, with whom he raised two children, Neil and Melissa. On June 22, 2002, Ralph was united in marriage to Vera Merza, sharing many joyful years until her passing in 2015.

Ralph retired from Mid-State Correctional Facility, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, he lived life to the fullest. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Ralph was also an active member of the Rome softball and bowling leagues for many years. He had an adventurous spirit and rarely sat still—traveling often to cheer on his children and grandchildren or explore new places. Above all, family was the center of his world.

Ralph is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Jennifer Pezzula; his daughter, Melissa Dole, and his son-in-law Norman Dole; and his cherished grandchildren, Emily Keara Dole and her companion, Evan Drozd, Jacob Pezzula, McKenna Pezzula, and Ethan Dole. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Joan Pezzula, and Carmen and Carol Pezzula. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wives Jill and Vera; and his brothers, Frederick and Louis.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors at Lee Valley Cemetery.

Ralph’s legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
