Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert John Casler, 79, of Rome, NY passed away on June 20, 2025, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY with his loving family by his side. Born in Rome, NY on May 8, 1946, he was the son of the late John Joel Casler and Sarah Summerville Casler. Bob was united in marriage to Janis A. Goyette on May 7, 1967, in Quincy Massachusetts and made their home on Fonda Ave in Rome, where they’ve spent their entire married lives. They just recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Bob and Janis truly enjoyed their retirement years spending time in Florida with family and friends, too many to mention. Bob never let the grass grow under his feet and was always making plans for the next adventure or camping trip up to the St. Lawrence River. Their home turf was Grass Point State Park, and they always enjoyed their time in Alexandria Bay. Bob enjoyed early morning coffee with good friends while sharing a good laugh.

Bob was a proud member of many clubs including, Sons of the American Legion, Rome and Oneida Fire & Police Retirees Association, Fort Stanwix Hose Company and Life Member of the Stanwix Men’s Club.

Bob was a firefighter for the City of Rome where he was a valuable and dedicated employee for 30 years until his retirement. Bob loved serving his community and helping his fellow man. He and his wife Janis also owned and operated the Westernville Hotel. Bob was proud of his family, his wife and his children were his greatest accomplishments, that is, until his grandchildren came along. Bob’s greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family.

Bob is survived by his wife Janis Casler; his children Robert (Stephanie) Casler Julie (Peter) Sestito and Shawn (Anne) Casler. Two sisters, Linda and Donna. Grandchildren: Tim Sestito, Tom Sestito, Matthew Morse, Victoria Sestito, Jonathan Casler, Jack Sestito, RJ Casler, Christopher Casler and Kaycee Casler.

In addition, Bob was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Sloane, Jude, Killian, and Cora. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Margie and his cherished daughter-in-law, Kimberly L. Casler.
