Obituary of Katherine Gavin

Katherine Gavin, 81, of Rome NY, formerly of Karlen Road passed away on May 30, 2025, with her loving family by her side.  Born in Elizabeth New Jersey on February 18, 1944, she was the daughter of Anthony Julian and Ann Mae Meacle.

Katherine was educated at Our Lady of Victory high school in Tarrytown, NY. She was employed by Dr. Ramineni in Rome as an insurance claims specialist where she was a beloved employee. She was also employed by Dr. Valvo of Rome. Katherine was united in marriage to William F. Gavin Jr. together they shared a blessed union until his passing in 2017.

Katherine was a member of St. Joseph’s church in Lee Center; she was an integral part of her church community and family. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, aiding in the Holy Communion and making herself available for any member in need of a visit or companionship. The church truly was a sacred place to Katherine and she served faithfully for many years which gave her a sense of purpose. Katherine was also a member od St. Joseph’s Women’s Club.

Katherine is survived by her sons William Gavin of Pennsylvania and Mike Gavin of Liverpool; daughters Kathy Nicastro of Frankfort and Maureen Gavin (James Moss) of Rome; sisters Margaret Dougherty of Texas and twin sister Patricia Biglin of Pennsylvania; grandchildren Tia, Alexandria, and Ryan; great grandchildren Maraya, Quinn, Abrielle, Demi. Julianna, and Jayde. She was predeceased by her husband William F. Gavin Jr. The family would like to thank Janice Kullman for her compassion and care.

Funeral services are private and there are no calling hours. Arrangements by  Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome, NY 13440. Memorial contributions can be made The Bill Gavin Food Pantry, located at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lee Center, NY (5748 Stokes-Lee Center Rd).
