He graduated from Boonville High School in 1968 and directly enlisted into the Marine Corps at the age of 17, where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War until 1972. Following this, he served in multiple branches of the military throughout his life, including but not limited to, the Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, The Air National Guard and retiring in 2010 with the Air Force at EADS. In addition, he was an honorary life member of the Lee Legion Post.

We are extremely grateful for Marcia Olmstead- his “organizer & keeper of his life” for over 30 years, Steve Hall, Kevin Olmstead, Greg Stiefvater, Tom Fernon and Robert Brockway for assisting in smoothly running & retiring his business over the last few years. He used his multifaceted talents & knowledge to do and fix just about anything he could in his life. He shared this information, the importance of independent success and his immense love for animals with his daughter & granddaughters, who truly were his world. Dave was an extremely caring person who would give you the shirt off his back and enjoyed the simple things in life- nature, family, animals & privacy.
