
Obituary of Geraldine M. Sears
Geraldine “Gerry” M. Sears, 92, of Rome, NY passed away on February 12, 2025, at Rome Health. Born in Rome, NY on June 16, 1932, she was the daughter of Thomas and Francis (Gifford) McCormick. Following graduation from high school she pursued her nursing degree at St. Elizabeth's College of Nursing where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Gerry was united in marriage to Robert Joseph Sears on February 7, 1953, the two shared a blessed union until his passing in April 1989.
Gerry was a caring and compassionate nurse at Rome Health (Murphy Memorial) Hospital, her kind and warm demeanor was a welcome presence to her patients. Her dedication and work ethic made her a valuable employee and coworker. Gerry loved her work as a nurse and enjoyed her many patients over the years, she had a true gift to make others feel comfort when it was most needed. Gerry enjoyed shopping, she especially enjoyed shopping for clothes, antique shopping and the various treasures she collected over the years. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family but most of all, she enjoyed being a grandmother, great grandmother, and most recently great greatgrandmother!
Gerry is survived by her son Tim and Carrie Sears; her daughter Patti Kleek; her son in law Thomas Palinski; brothers William McCormick and Mark DeDominick; sisters Marilyn Fahy and Mary Anne Valentine; grandchildren David (Jessica), Michelle, Jennifer (Scott),Kimberly (Greg), Kristin (Eric), Courtney (Bob), Haley (Drew), Molly (A.J.),Sandra, Sarah, and Melissa; great grandchildren Emma, Colton, Liam, Mason, Madelyn, Alex, Caroline, Julia, Issac, Cortney, Frank and Talia,; great great granddaughter Maiella. She was predeceased by her son Robert Michael Sears; a daughter Marilyn Palinski; son-in-law Thomas Kleek; brother Thomas McCormick; and her granddaughter Courtney Beth Sears.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Rome Health RHCF for all the love and support they showed for Gerry during her stay. The care she received was exceptional
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Thursday February 20, 2025, from 4:00-7:00PM at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd. Rome, NY. A mass will be held at St. Peters church on Friday February 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
