Knowing Mike was both a pleasure and an honor. We shared the ballroom dance floor many times, except during a polka. Nobody could polka like Mike and Melody, so I just sat and watched. They were as light on their feet as a summer breeze.
Later, many of us ham radio operators happily donated our time every year at the Erie Canal Village keeping everyone safe during their Civil War Reenactments.
Mike's was a life I truly enjoyed being a small part of. May he rest in peace.

To Michael’s family and friends I’m sending hugs and prayers.
“Michael truly was born too late and passed too soon” as his brother Jim said. Michael loved re-enacting the days of simple living with his horses.
He loved his family and collecting family history. He loved hosting his annual
Pig roast family reunion for and over 25 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, cousins, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and the community. If you met Michael once you never forgot him. He loved life and enjoyed his to the fullest!! You felt the love, immediately!!
Love you Michael,
Donna Rice your 2nd cousin!!

My deepest condolences to the Milewski family. Mike and I graduated together from RCH. Being from Westmoreland Mike and I rode the bus together everyday and got to chat along the way. Mike was a truly genuine and kind man who will be missed.

Michael was a kind, friendly man who I was always happy to see at church, knowing he would call me “Mead”! I loved the way he would tell of his life experiences. He was always teaching something in his special way! God Bless you Michael.

I learned a lot of history about NY State and the Erie Canal from Mike.
Working at the Erie Canal Village was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I’m so glad to have been one of the Village people. We made lots of memories together ❤️
With loving memories, Dale Fink

He was an inspiration, Mel. He was hard-working, hard-headed (at times), and humorous (in his own way). The Erie Canal has lost a champion, and Rome has lost part of its history. I cannot imagine how much you have lost. I expect that he's driving a team of mules through the Elysian Fields today with a big grin breaking through that big beard.

All of us at Trinity Church loved and admired Michael, he will be sorely missed. He helped us with numerous activities, including constructing our decorated wagon for our float in the Rome Honor America Days parades. Many enjoyed interesting discussions on a variety of topics with Michael, due to his vast knowledge from so many life experiences. Our one solace is that he packed SO much living into his much too short number of years. We’re grateful to have experienced a few horse drawn wagon rides into their magical picnic spot in the woods. For so many reasons he will be missed dearly by so many, but remain in our hearts and memories forever.
